Connecticut College senior wing Pete Halfer scored three goals and junior defenseman Matt Coleman added the shorthanded game-winner with 9:50 remaining as Amherst lost to the Camels 5-4 Friday.
The teams spent most of the game on the power play, with 21 penalties called for 58 minutes. Amherst rallied from a 3-1 first-intermission deficit with two goals in the first 1:35 of the second period, and after a Connecticut College goal, the Jeffs tied on a goal from senior tri-captain Chris Orszulak with 4:39 left in the third.
Amherst junior forward Darren Reaume had a goal and two assists in defeat, while senior defenseman Jim Smith added a goal and an assist. Sophomore center Mike Hasenauer had four assists for the Camels.
Connecticut College first-year goalie Brett Roth, making his first career start, turned away 34 Amherst shots.
