The athletic directors of the men’s Hockey East conference have voted to establish a Division I women’s ice hockey league under the Hockey East banner to begin play no later than the fall of 2004.

According to a report in the South End, the Wayne State student newspaper, goaltender Marc Carlson has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and will miss the entire 2001-2002 season.
It was a somber CCHA media day this time around. The 12 coaches of the conference mourned the loss of Maine coach Shawn Walsh, while talking about the rest of the tragedy that has befallen the nation. But with practices starting up, the leaders of the CCHA agreed to honor their fallen comrades and then turn their heads towards hockey.
Merrimack coach Chris Serino will begin customized chemotherapy treatments on Wednesday in his battle against throat cancer, according to the Eagle-Tribune. Vermont senior Graham Mink has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team and athletic department rules, following his arrest earlier this week.
