Former St. Lawrence men’s and women’s ice hockey coach Bernie McKinnon died Sunday after a battle with bone cancer. The recent St. Lawrence Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, who was the men’s varsity coach from 1971-76, was considered a pioneer in women’s coaching.
The MAAC had an interesting summer: Gaining an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, getting into a flap with Findlay, dealing with the potential departure of Canisius. Now it’s time to get serious on the ice as its looks for another measure of respect by playing some tough non-conference foes.
