Utica extends Auditorium deal

Utica and the Upper Mohawk Valley Auditorium Authority announced a five-year extension, through 2017, to the school’s lease agreement to use the Utica Memorial Auditorium as its men’s and women’s hockey arena. Utica has led the nation in Division III men’s attendance for the last six seasons, including an average of 3,253 fans last season.

Following investigation, Hofmann resigns as Merrimack athletic director

Glenn Hofmann has resigned as Merrimack athletic director, a school source said Tuesday, eight weeks after being put on paid leave. Change proposed to Division III season start date

The NCAA Division III Management Council’s playing and practice seasons subcommittee will recommend that schools not be allowed to play games before Nov. 1. Current rules allow Division III schools to practice and play starting Oct. 15, and the council raised health and safety concerns.

Penn State adds to men’s staff

Penn State named Robert McLean its head men’s hockey strength and conditioning coach, Adam Sheehan its head men’s hockey equipment manager, Justin Rogers its men’s hockey athletic trainer and Josh Hand its volunteer assistant men’s hockey coach. The school elevated Bill Downey to director of men’s hockey operations/video coach.
