Harvard’s Katey Stone has been the all-time winningest coach in women’s Division I hockey for this decade, and currently has 464 wins in her career. However, it is likely that Wisconsin’s Mark Johnson or Mercyhurst’s Mike Sisti will surpass her this weekend.

It would seem that once again, this is Boston College’s conference to lose. The Eagles have won five straight regular-season titles and return three gold-medal-winning Olympians back to the roster this season. With the acquisition of goalie Kassidy SauvĂ© from Ohio State and former Quinnipiac standout scorer T.T. Cianfarano, who will add to a potent offense that includes Patty Kazmaier Award top-three finalist Loren Gabel, the Clarkson Golden Knights look poised to not only again win the ECAC, but to three-peat as national champions. Colgate and Cornell will try to throw a wrench into Clarkson’s march to glory.
Mercyhurst finished second in the regular season last year to Robert Morris, but won the CHA tournament and its auto-bid to the NCAA tournament. Robert Morris lost two key players to graduation, and Mercyhurst, returning a ton, looks to be the favorite.
She engineered an incredible turnaround, taking a Hamline program that a sub-.500 record last year all the way to the Frozen Four and a victory in the third-place game against perennial power Plattsburgh. Natalie Darwitz is the USCHO women’s D-III coach of the year.
She led the country in rookie scoring in goals and points overall, and was 15 points clear of the next freshman in scoring. Callie Hoff of Wisconsin-River Falls is USCHO’s D-III women’s rookie of the year.
