MCHA picks: Feb. 15

The final weekend of the regular season is upon us, and I stand with an overall pick record of 53-40-3 (.552). Last week, I went 5-2-1 (.625) in my picks, not bad considering the disastrous picks I was making in the beginning of 2013. This weekend, every team is playing, with each team competing against … Read more

Hard work directs season for Adrian

Currently, the Adrian Bulldogs hold the nation’s longest unbeaten streak, going 7-0-2 in their last nine contests. Previous to this streak, the team was on a nine-game win streak before Wisconsin Stevens-Point beat the Bulldogs 7-4 in December. That marked the lone loss for Adrian thus far this season. The Bulldogs boast a 12-0-2 conference … Read more

Three series in the conference ended with a sweep last weekend, and I predicted nearly all splits. The sole sweep I did predict ended with the other team getting the wins. Typical. I went 3-5-0 (.375) last weekend, bringing my season total to 40-31-4 (533). Like any good player, I’m going to put that weekend … Read more

Northland’s recent success due to team chemistry

Northland had a rough start to its season, to say the least. After five games, the Lumberjacks had allowed 34 goals while only scoring 11, holding a goal differential of minus-23. Things needed to change for the young team. They lost five straight through Nov. 16. “As times get tough, it’s hard to stay positive; … Read more

So I was a bit too confident in my conference picks last week, and the conference proved to have more parity than I had expected. I fell below .500, yet again, with a 3-2-2 (.428) pick record. That brings my season record to 37-26-4 (.552). Yuck. This week sees interesting division match-ups. The top dog … Read more

Lake Forest struggles score as defense shines

Defensively speaking, the Lake Forest Foresters are a great team. They currently have the 10th best penalty-kill unit in the country, going 66-of-76 (86.8 percent), which tops all other teams in the MCHA. Lake Forest is fourth in the conference in defensive scoring, allowing an average of 2.80 goals a game. They are a disciplined … Read more
