BU won its 30th Beanpot not through blue-blood hockey privilege nor by accident. The Terriers won it the old fashioned way. Through hard work.
These are the three things I think I learned this week. 1. Boston University can do no worse than finish as co-champions with Boston College. But the Terriers could lose in a tiebreaker (listed below) to see which team gains the number one playoff seed. BU could be number two. It would, of course, amount … Read more

Northeastern scored five times in the first period and kept the pedal to the metal en route to a 9-0 demolition of Connecticut. Zach Aston-Reese recorded a hat trick, but was one-upped by teammate Kevin Roy who registered a Texas hat trick (four goals). Clay Witt stopped all 27 shots he faced for the shutout. … Read more
Jim and I disagreed on three picks last week, but two of them were in the postponed Beanpot, so it all came down to just one. Guess who won? Heh, heh, heh. Dave last week: 7-2-1 Jim last week: 6-3-1 Dave’s record-to-date: 135-66-20 Jim’s record-to-date: 131-70-20 Here are this week’s picks: Friday, Feb. 13 New Hampshire at Boston University Dave’s … Read more

The Fighting Irish are in third place in Hockey East but because of a 5-9 nonconference record, they’re 35th in the PairWise Rankings, meaning they’ll have to win the league playoffs to make the NCAA tournament.
These are the three things I think I learned this week. 1. The Providence offense is coming on at just the right time. For much of the season, the Providence scoring has been good, but not great. The Friars have displayed championship quality defense, but nothing amazing in the offensive zone. That seems to be … Read more

LOWELL, Mass. — It was over practically before it started. Boston University scored just 38 seconds into its contest at Massachusetts-Lowell, and barely more than eight minutes in held a 3-0 lead. After the Terriers expanded the lead to 4-0 heading into the third period, Lowell rallied with two goals, but they proved too little, … Read more
The number-one star of this game was the no-brainer of the century. Although his team was outshot 52-17, Merrimack’s Rasmus Tirronen stopped all but one, leading the Warriors to a 2-1 win over Massachusetts-Lowell. Tirronen’s 51 saves were a career high, topping the 40 and 41 he recorded in back-to-back nights in January’s Minnesota tournament. … Read more
I was pretty mediocre last week, but that’s just fine and dandy because Jim was… um, awful. Heh, heh, heh. Boston University and Providence have rebounded from down stretches, while Massachusetts-Lowell is still looking for the exit.
With the results so one-sided this week, I’m listing the three things I think I learned a little differently. 1. There were four big winners this week. Boston University, Maine, Northeastern and Providence all swept this weekend. Coaches talk about how tough two points are in this league, and rightly so. Four points? Brutally tough … Read more

LOWELL, Mass. — The Providence power play scored three times to lead the Friars to a 7-3 over fifth-ranked Massachusetts-Lowell. The contest pitted the top two defensive teams in Hockey East play, but resulted in a total of 10 goals. With the victory in this battle of blue-collar rivals, Providence moves into fifth place in … Read more
BOSTON — Boston College’s roster includes only three freshmen, but those three scored all four Eagle goals in a 4-2 road win over archrival Boston University. Alex Tuch scored twice and assisted on another goal, while defenseman Noah Hanifin opened the scoring and also added an assist. Zach Sanford made a key block in the … Read more
Jim and I disagreed on only two picks last weekend and going into the third period, it looked like I’d widen my lead by two. As visions of a six-game lead danced in my head, one of those wins became a tie and the other a loss. A pox on the Black Bears and Dartmouth! I should have … Read more
