Three Things: Boomshakalaka Bentley

Does everyone remember NBA Jam? It’s the old arcade game that came out in the 1990s and revolutionized sports games at the time. Each team played two guys, one of which could usually dunk out of the gym and one who could hit a three from everywhere on the basketball court. The commentary was electric; if … Read more

Three Things: Bentley Takes Flight

It seemed like each week featured some other team breaking out of its shell. Someone had the perfect weekend of hockey and banked four points while providing glimpses into a program’s identity. Everyone had their day, except, it seemed, Bentley. Until now. Bentley swept Robert Morris this weekend by playing a complete weekend of hockey. … Read more

Three Things: Buzzkill

In our preseason conference preview, Chris Lerch and I tabbed AIC and Niagara as two of our bottom three teams. A little over one month into the season, we’re being proven, once again, to know virtually to absolutely nothing. Such is life in Atlantic Hockey. AIC swept Sacred Heart one weekend after the Pioneers played … Read more

Sacred Heart taking strides in early-season Atlantic Hockey play

Fairfield County juts west into the metropolitan New York City region, the last stop before the Connecticut-New York state border. Its largest city, Bridgeport, is most populous in the state as Interstate 95 cuts right through the downtown area. Its sports arena, Webster Bank Arena, rises right along that highway, a testament to the community … Read more

Three Things: Broken Record

I have this perfect hypothetical situation in my head. It’s late August, and Atlantic Hockey’s coaches are meeting in a dark room under a hockey rink somewhere. It’s dimly lit, and they all pass note cards around a table coming up with what they all want to say at the beginning of the season. They … Read more

AHC: Bentley wins a wild one to take home first victory of season

When Atlantic Hockey’s administration puts together highlight reels, it might want to dial up Friday night’s Bentley-Mercyhurst game film. The Falcons and Lakers dueled for 60 minutes into the night, producing 80 shots and seven goals. They peppered each other for 30 shots and five goals in the third period alone. There was physicality, intensity, … Read more

Army West Point grad Pomarico drawing inspiration from late Black Knights standout Derek Hines

Christian Pomarico never met Derek Hines. They never skated together and never dressed together in the same hockey locker room. They both attended and graduated from the United States Military Academy, but neither man met the other. But to Pomarico, “Hinesy” is still a part of his family. A 2016 West Point graduate, Pomarico hung … Read more

Three Things: Stalemate City

Holy Cross and Mercyhurst played 130 minutes of hockey this weekend. It included six periods and two five-minute overtime periods across two games. By the time it ended, they split the weekend, the product of back-to-back ties after 1-1 and 4-4 results. It was a good weekend of hockey giving both teams plenty of positives. … Read more

American International, Bentley off to slow starts, but both finding positives to build on

College hockey’s first weekend is usually something of a parade lap. Nonconference matchups dot the first days of the season, with fans and followers getting reacquainted with familiar colors. Chants and songs shake off summer dust, and the first semblance of winter’s cold blows in across the sport’s landscape. For teams like American International and … Read more

Comm Ave Charity Classic sees BU top BC, raises more than $64,000 for pair of worthy causes

On July 14, alumni from both Boston College and Boston University took to the ice for the third annual Comm Ave Charity Classic, a summer exhibition raising money for both Compassionate Care ALS and the Travis Roy Foundation. Led by a pair of first-period goals, the BU alumni won 8-6, earning proverbial bragging rights on a night where over an event raised more than $64,000 for those two charities at historic Walter Brown Arena.
