Stan Wong, T.J. Oshie, Amanda Kessel, Ryan Suter and Phil Kessel were announced Thursday as this year’s inductees into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
Wong, an athletic trainer, spent 40 years in hockey, including stints with the Capitals and Panthers, plus five Olympics and dozens of IIHF tournaments with USA Hockey.
Oshie helped the Capitals win their first Stanley Cup title in 2018 and became a folk hero for his shootout heroics against Russia at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Over 16 NHL seasons with St. Louis and Washington, he tallied 695 points in 1,010 games.
Amanda Kessel, a three-time Olympian, won gold in 2018 (scoring the pivotal shootout goal) and silver in 2014 and 2022. She won four World Championship golds and three silvers, racking up 59 points in 43 games. At Minnesota, she was a three-time NCAA champion and put up a historic 101-point season in 2012-13, earning her the Patty Kazmaier Award. She’s now with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ front office.
Suter played 1,526 games over 20 seasons — second-most all-time among American-born players — split mainly between Nashville, Minnesota, and Dallas. He won World Junior gold in 2004 and Olympic silver in 2010, and led the NHL in career time-on-ice since tracking began.
Phil Kessel thrice won the Stanley Cup (2016 and 2017 with Pittsburgh and 2023 with Vegas) across a 17-year NHL career with 992 points, including a then-record 1,064 consecutive games played. Drafted 5th overall in 2006, he won the Masterton Trophy as a rookie after beating testicular cancer. He also medaled at two Olympics.
The formal induction celebration and presentation of the NHL’s Lester Patrick Trophy will take place Nov. 30 in Washington, D.C.
