Chris Lazary was named associate head coach at Michigan, the school announced today.
Lazary joins the staff after spending the last 10 seasons with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League, including the past seven as head coach.
“Michigan is one of the premier programs in college hockey, with a rich tradition of excellence and a standard that is recognized across the sport,” Lazary said in a statement. “I want to thank coach Brandon Naurato and (athletic director) Warde Manuel for their belief and trust in me.”
Lazary also served as an assistant coach at York University (2012-13) following two seasons with the St. Michael’s Buzzers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (2010-12), where he began his coaching career.
“Chris has built a tremendous reputation as a teacher, a developer of players and someone who knows what it takes to build a winning culture,” Naurato said via statement. “The success he’s had in Saginaw speaks for itself. (He) has a relentless work ethic, a great hockey mind and will make an immediate impact.”
