The rebuilding of the coaching staff at St. Could continued this week as former Yale interim coach Joe Howe joined the staff as an assistant coach, the school announced.
Howe spent the last five seasons at Yale where he served as an assistant coach from 2021-25 before serving as the interim head coach following the retirement of Keith Allain.
“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Joe,” said St. Cloud head coach Nick Oliver in a statement. “(He’s) an extremely talented coach with a strong ability to develop and connect with student-athletes. His experience and success at the college and international levels will be invaluable to our program.”
While on staff with Yale, Howe was chosen to two USA Hockey coaching staffs, serving as an assistant coach for the 2025 U-18 Men’s Select Team and the 2024 U-17 Men’s Select Team. He helped the Americans capture gold at both events, winning the 2024 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Slovakia and the 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Czechia
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” Howe said via statement. “I look forward to building on the rich history of one of the great hockey programs in the country.”
