Michigan State goalie Trey Augustine signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings that will begin in the 2026-27 season, according to reports.

Augustine will report to the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins for the remainder of this season on an amateur tryout, thereby not burning a year off the entry-level contract.

A 2023 second-round draft pick of the Wings (41st overall), Augustine was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament Worcester Regionals with 75 saves and a .938 save percentage over two games. Michigan State was eliminated by Wisconsin 4-3 in overtime in the regional final.

Augustine is a finalist for both the Mike Richter Award, given to the top goaltender in men’s Division 1 hockey, and the Hobey Baker Award, presented to the top overall player in college hockey.

Augustine was B1G goalie of the year for the second straight year with a 24-9-1 record this season, a 2.11 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. Augustine compiled a 66-25-7 record with a 2.40 GAA and .922 save percentage in 99 games from 2023-26.

Augustine also won a gold medal with Team USA at both the 2024 and 2025 world junior championships.
