Assumption’s Jonathan Surrette (10) is the winner of the 25th Joe Concannon Award recognizing the best American-born player at the D-II/III level in New England.
The Woburn, MA resident had a phenomenal season for the Greyhounds recording 34 goals and 31 assists for 65 points in 33 games establishing a new scoring record during the season.
Surrette is the first player from Assumption to win the award and first in D-II since 2010 when St. Anselm forward Coleman Noonan was recognized. Assumption finished the season with a 23-8-2 overall record while going 15-3-2 in the NE-10 conference winning both the regular season title and the NE-10 conference tournament where he scored two goals and added an assist in the 5-4 win over St. Anselm. He was recognized as the NE-10 Player-of-the-Year and also received third team All-American honors from the American Hockey Coaches Association.
“He is probably the only player in the country to have scored points against a D-I, D-II and D-III opponent this season, as our schedule also included an exhibition with LIU,” said head coach Michael Looney. “He is the first player to receive the award here at Assumption and one of only two D-II players to earn the Joe Concannon Award, so we are very proud of his accomplishments.”
“Jonathan certainly earned the award during Assumption’s great NE-10 season and is a terrific representative among past winners in this season, the silver anniversary of the Concannon Award,” said hockey award committee chairman, Tim Costello on behalf of the Gridiron Club of New England.
The Joe Concannon Award will be presented at the new England Hockey Writers Brunch on Sunday, April 19.
