Massachusetts goalie Michael Hrabal will forgo his senior year after signing a 3-year entry-level contract with the Utah Mammoth of the NHL, the school announced Wednesday.
The contract will begin at the start of the 2026-27 season. The Prague, Czechia native was drafted in the second round, 38th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2023 NHL draft. He will report to the Tucscon Roadrunners of the American Hockey League on a professional tryout agreement.
“We are extremely happy for Mike,” UMass coach Greg Carvel said in a statement. “(He) has left an indelible mark upon me personally and (has) exhibited tremendous growth during his time at UMass, and it was great to see him reach his full potential. He is ready to excel at the next level.”
Hrabal, who was recently named a finalist for the 2026 Mike Richter Award was tabbed the Hockey East Player of the Year, Hockey East Goaltender of the Year and was a unanimous Hockey East First Team All-Star selection as a junior.
From January 1 on, Hrabal went 13-4-1 with four shutouts, a 1.33 goals-against average and a .959 save percentage. He allowed just two goals or fewer in 16 of those 18 games.
