Women’s Hockey Weekend Wrap – December 1, 2025

Smashville Showcase

Mercyhurst vs. Stonehill

Three goals in the first and three more in the third secured a 6-1 for Mercyhurst. Maja Alenius, Sofia Nuutinen, Julia Perjus, Jessica Ciarrocchi, Regina Metzler and Sophie McKinley each scored for Mercyhurst. Summer Combe was the goal scorer for Stonehill. With the Lakers’ victory, coach Michael Sisti recorded his 600th career win. He became just the second Division-I women’s hockey coach to reach this milestone, behind fellow tournament participant Mark Johnson at Wisconsin. 

(1) Wisconsin vs. Mercyhurst

Lacey Eden scored twice to lead the Badgers to a 5-1 win. Caroline Harvey collected her 168th career point, breaking the record for career points by a WCHA defender, surpassing Ronda Curtin (Minnesota). Magdalena Luggin made 56 saves for Mercyhurst in the loss and Sofia Llung was the Lakers’ goal-scorer. 

(1) Wisconsin vs. Stonehill

The Badgers set numerous program records and earned the Smashville Showcase win on Sunday with a 17-2 win. That’s the highest goal total in UW program history. Both Kirsten Simms and McKayla Zilish tallied hat tricks. Lacey Eden’s goal in the first period was her 200th career point and Laila Edwards collected her 100th assist on Laney Potter’s goal in the second period. The Badgers’ 87 shots were the most they’ve ever put on net. Rookie Rhyan Stewart earned her first career win in net. 

 

D1 in DC

(14) St. Cloud State vs. (12) Colgate

SCSU’s Sofianna Sundelin had a career game, notching her first hat trick and second overtime game-winning goal to lead the Huskies over the Raiders on Friday. The teams traded goals in the first, with Sundelin’s power play goal starting things before Elyssa Biedermann replied for Colgate to make it 1-1 at the break. Sundelin had the long goal of the second to make it 2-1. In the third, Sara Stewart scored at the midpoint to tie the game for Colgate and eventually force overtime. In the extra frame, Sundelin picked up a long rebound from her own goalie and took off down the ice to score the game-winner and complete her hat trick. 

(2) Ohio State vs. (10) Clarkson

Hilda Svensson tallied a hat trick, Kassidy Carmichael scored twice while Macy Rasmussen, Joy Dunne and Sanni Vanhanen each scored once as Ohio State held Clarkson to just nine shots, including zero in the final frame en route to an 8-0 win. 

(14) St. Cloud State vs. (10) Clarkson

Bridget Stevenson scored in the second and Sara Manness added a power play goal early in the third and that was enough for Clarkson to take the 2-0 win. 

(2) Ohio State vs. (12) Colgate

Kassidy Carmichael and Sanni Vanhanen each scored twice in the second and Jordyn Baxter added a goal in the third to close out a 5-0 shutout win for Ohio State as the took the D1 in DC title. 

 

Nutmeg Classic 

(9) Quinnipiac vs. (8) Connecticut

After a scoreless first frame, Kyla Josifovic got UConn on the board first early in the second. Tessa Holk responded for Quinnipiac midway through the second to make it 1-1. Ashley Allard showed off some moves to give the Huskies the lead at the second intermission. Zoe Uens pulled the Bobcats even at 2-2 early in the third, but that lasted less than a minute as Allard scored again to put Connecticut up 3-2. Makayla Watson again brought Quinnipiac even at 3-3 with nine minutes to go. Megan Woodworth scored the game-winner with a few minutes left in regulation to give UConn the victory. Tia Chan made 40 saves to secure the victory.

Yale vs. Sacred Heart

Yale’s Maeve Casey, Sage Smith, Gracie Gilkyson, Mariya Rauf and Cami Bell each scored to put last year’s Nutmeg Classic winners in the championship game with a 5-0 win. 

(9) Quinnipiac vs. Sacred Heart

Kahlen LaMarche scored twice to give the Bobcats a 2-0 win. 

(8) Connecticut vs. Yale

Christina Walker put the Huskies on the board first but Yale replied pretty quickly, tying the game thanks to Jordan Ray. Neither team could break through in the second. In the third, Kyla Josifovic scored on the power play to put UConn up 2-1. Hannah Weyerhaeuser tied things up with about nine left in regulation, but UConn dug deep again and found a late game-winner, this time from Julia Pellerin. Her goal gave Connecitcut the 3-2 win and Nutmeg Classic trophy.

 

Mayor’s Cup

Providence at (11) Brown

Olivia Fantino’s goal just 1:43 into the game was the only tally for more than four minutes as Brown carried that 1-0 lead all the way into the third period. Providence found their scoring touch in the second as Kiara Kraft and Audrey Knapp lit the lamp four minutes apart to give the Friars the lead. Ava DeCosta tied things up and forced overtime. But in the extra frame, it was Knapp who found the game-winner to give Providence the 3-2 win and crown them Mayor’s Cup winners.

(4) Penn State at (7) Northeastern

PSU came out hard in the first, but could not get the puck past Lisa Jonsson. They outshot NU 16-1, but Northeastern was able to capitalize on their only shot of the period, scoring with 24.5 seconds left in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Alessia Baechler and Lily Shanon scored minutes apart later in the second to extend Northeastern’s lead to 3-0. Penn State pushed in the third as Grace Outwater and Mya Vaslet scored early in the frame, but they couldn’t find the equalizer and the Huskies took a 3-2 win. In the second game, Shannon’s shot from the slot seven minutes in was the only tally in the first as the Huskies took a 1-0 lead into the break. But Penn State pushed back in the second. First Taylor Lum tied things less than four minutes into the second, putting back a rebound to make it 1-1. Then Katelyn Roberts placed the puck in the upper corner to make it 2-1. In the third, Maddy Christian and Mikah Keller jumped on rebounds to extend the lead and give Penn State the 4-1 win and weekend split. 

(5) Cornell at Vermont

Julia Mesplède went bar down from the slot to open the scoring and put Vermont up 1-0. Avi Adam tied things up midway through the first with some speed down the boards to make it 1-1. Delaney Fleming’s skating and a wicked shot put Cornell up 2-1 at the first intermission. Ashley Kokavec scored just 25 seconds into the second when her dump took a fortuitous bump and beat Annelies Bergmann to make it a 2-2 game. Less than four minutes later, Mesplède earned her second goal with some more Vermont puck luck as the initial drive was stopped but the puck was then nudged over the line to make it 3-2 UVM. Lindzi Avar’s power play goal tied things up for Cornell on the power play later in the second. Lauren O’Hara scored just before the end of the second, cleaning up a rebound to give Vermont the 4-3 edge. Ellie Simmons made 13 third-period saves and Cornell could not break through as Vermont held the lead and earned the 4-3 win. The Big Red responded in the second game, closing things out with three third period goals to put it out of reach for UVM. Abby Thibodeau scored in the first, Piper Grober scored in the second and then Georgia Schiff added two in the third before Mesplède got Vermont on the board. But McKenna Van Gelder scored once more for Cornell to close out a 5-1 win and weekend split. 

Dartmouth at (15) Minnesota State

Mercury Bischoff continued her incredible run, opening the scoring by converting a penalty shot to give Mankato the 1-0 lead 7:31 into the second. Whitney Tuttle doubled the lead a few minutes later, making it 2-0 MSU. Bridget Pringle pulled one back for Dartmouth before the intermission to make it a 2-1 game headed into the third. The Mavericks pulled away in the third as Ayla Puppe made it 3-1 early and then Lauren Goldsworthy and Zoe Lopez scored 11 seconds apart to really blow things open and make it 5-1 Mankato. Miami Jones scored late for Dartmouth, but it was not enough as MSU took the 5-2 win. In the second game, Bischoff scored her sixth goal in the last four games. Goldsworthy, Taylor Otremba, Kamryn Van Batavia and Puppe each also scored to carry Minnesota State to a 5-0 win and weekend sweep. 

(11) Brown at New Hampshire

Jade Ignila scored early for Brown, but New Hampshire took control from there. Kelly Harty tied things 1-1 in the second and then Danika Botterill, Alyson Hush and Addison Spitz each scored in the third to give UNH the 4-1 win.
