Each week, USCHO.com picks the top 10 moments from the past weekend in our Monday 10 feature.
1) Michigan, Michigan State both sweep the ECAC, setting up huge intrastate rivalry series for next week
No. 1 Michigan and No. 3 Michigan State of the B1G each took two games from ECAC opponents over the Thanksgiving weekend, and if voters decide to “punish” No. 2 Wisconsin for being idle, it could very well be a battle of the top two teams in the USCHO D-I men’s poll when the Wolverines and Spartans meet for a home-and-home series starting Friday in East Lansing.
Michigan went to Cambridge, Mass., and swept Harvard by scores of 5-1 and 4-3 (OT), while Michigan State was a 5-2 and 4-1 winner vs. Colgate. Michigan State’s Daniel Russell posted three points in the second matchup, including a pair of goals and an assist.
“Good finish to the weekend,” said Michigan State coach Adam Nightingale. “I liked the way we started. I thought (Eric) Nilson’s line was really good, probably our best line, and consistent. We asked our ‘D’ to be better. I thought they were better. We’ll get some rest here and have a great week of practice coming up.”
For Michigan, Will Horcoff scored his NCAA-leading 18th goal of the season in overtime to lead the Wolverines over Harvard. Michigan closed out non-conference play with a 9-1-0 record.
2) Miami wins Friendship Four in Northern Ireland
No. 20 Union, RIT, Sacred Heart and Miami took their game to Belfast, Northern Ireland over the weekend for the 2025 Friendship Four, with Miami winning the tournament with a 3-2 win over Union in the final game on Saturday.
Matteo Giampa scored the game winner for Miami at 16:22 of the third period, breaking a 2-2 tie. Giampa got his stick on the puck in the neutral zone and fired, sending a shot that hit Union goaltender Cameron Korpi and then ricocheted off a defender in front and settled into the back of the net. Miami fended off a number of chances over the final two minutes with the Union net empty to hang.
3) Minnesota upsets Denver
Six different players scored for Minnesota, with Javon Moore delivering the overtime winner with 35 seconds left, as the Gophers tipped No. 4 Denver 6-5 in the 2025 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game Saturday night at Ball Arena.
It’s been a season of struggle for Minnesota, but it was the Gophers’ second win over a top-5 opponent in a little over a week, having beat then-No. 4 Penn State 2-1 on Nov. 21 to kick off a weekend split with the Nittany Lions.
4) North Dakota sweeps Bemidji in nonconference home-and-home
Forward Will Zellers struck 3:10 into overtime Saturday to give No. 6 North Dakota a 2-1 win and series sweep vs. Bemidji State before a crowd of 11,573 at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The win came on the heels of a 5-3 win by the Fighting Hawks the previous night at Bemidji.
North Dakota improved to 39-6-8 all-time against Bemidji and 27-3-5 in Grand Forks, and is now 24-5-4 against Minnesota teams since 2023-24.
5) Quinnipiac rallies late to beat Stonehill to stay unbeaten at home
No. 8 Quinnipiac needed a late push to avoid a non-conference upset, scoring twice in 34 seconds in the final minutes of regulation to edge Stonehill 3–2. The Bobcats outshot the Skyhawks 42–18.
The Bobcats remain undefeated (6-0-2) at home, including wins over No. 19 Boston University, Clarkson, St. Lawrence and Holy Cross.
6) Northeastern beats Brown on Senior Day
Senior Day in November? As No. 11 Northeastern prepares to say goodbye to Matthews Arena (the last game at the venerable barn is scheduled for Dec. 13), the Huskies saluted their seniors last Saturday and — while it certainly wasn’t goodbye to the players — celebrated nicely with a 4-1 win over Brown.
The Huskies scored twice in the opening five minutes and got 27 saves from Quentin Sigurdson to secure the win.
7) BU beats Cornell at MSG
The century-old rivalry between No. 17 Cornell and No. 19 Boston University added another chapter on Saturday BU winning 2-1 before 17,478 fans at the “Red Hot Hockey” event at Madison Square Garden.
Cole Eiserman broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period to help the Terriers hoist the Kelley-Harkness Cup for the first time since 2015. Mikhail Yegorov made 28 saves.
8) Dartmouth sweeps a pair of Hockey East foes
Dartmouth sent two Hockey East schools packing over the weekend, beating Vermont 7-1 Friday and Merrimack 1-0 on Saturday. Both games were at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H.
The 13th-ranked Big Green have won eight straight to start the season. On Saturday, CJ Foley notched his second goal of the season at the 9:06 mark of the first period for the game’s only goal. The previous night, Roan Clarke made 22 saves in net for Dartmouth.
9) Minnesota State sweeps No. Michigan
No. 14 Minnesota State moved into first place in the CCHA standings and extended its win streak to six with wins of 4-0 and 3-2 over the weekend vs. Northern Michigan in Marquette, Mich.
“It was great to get two wins on the road,” said Minnesota State coach Luke Strand. “Gutty performance by guys stepping up for the team. We are in the midst of a big stretch of games with a lot on the line. I’m happy for the guys.”
After recording his 10th career shutout on Friday, Minnesota State goalie Alex Tracy stopped 31 shots Saturday to keep the Mavericks unbeaten in regulation since Oct. 10.
10) Hagens hat trick lifts BC past Notre Dame
The first career hat trick for James Hagens lifted Boston College to a come-from-behind 5-3 win over Notre Dame on Friday before a crowd of 7,230 at Silvio O. Conte Forum.
Hagens’s first goal didn’t come until 17:03 of the second period, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the Eagles its first lead of the game. He scored again with just 12 seconds to go in the middle frame.
Boston College is now 26-22-3 all-time against Notre Dame. The Eagles have won six of their last seven games.
