There is no question the season is off to a resounding start after the great action in week one. Week two promises more of the same with great rivalry games and battles among ranked teams as some conference play begins in earnest.

Here are this week’s picks for the ten conferences playing this weekend and there are marque matchups in abundance:

Friday, November 7, 2025 – Sunday, November 9, 2025

CNE

(9) University of New England v. (2) Curry

Both teams captured impressive wins to open the season and now open conference play with big points on the line despite it being early November. Goaltending and defense proved to be solid for the Colonels in their road win over Norwich and look for more of the same on home ice where they eke out a one-goal win over a determined Nor’easters squad – Curry, 3-2

Little East

Babson v. Keene State

Both teams had 2-0 weekends to begin the new season and no question there is excitement about playing for conference points in the new LEC hockey conference. Both teams have their stars but this matchup comes down to depth, a late third period goal and one more save by Nate Mueller to steal a road win for the Beavers om the month of the “Beaver Moon” – Babson, 2-1

MAC

Stevenson v. Alvernia

Alvernia captured a big road win last weekend when they downed SUNYAC contender Cortland despite being outshot by a wide margin. Returning to home ice against the defending champion Mustangs will be a good test that goes to the visitors who need an ENG for the final margin – Stevenson, 5-3

MASCAC

Anna Maria v. Salve Regina

The only independent team in the east looked good in a 4-0 win over Southern Maine but now face a potent AmCats squad looking to avenge their Woo Cup title game loss against Worcester State. Look for Matthew Hennessey to outduel Selby Warren in a fast and physical game where special teams will be a factor –    AMC, 4-2

MIAC

St John’s v. St Scholastica

Both teams picked up a win to open the season with St John’s downing Marian and St Scholastica splitting a two-game series with MSOE. Don’t expect a lot of scoring in this one but just enough from the home team who hangs on for the win over the “Johnnies”– St Scholastica, 2-1

NCHA

(11) Trine v. Concordia (WI)

Well, the one thing that was absolutely true last weekend was that a Concordia institution was going to pickup a win in the WI/MN matchup. The Thunder split two games in a round-robin event hosted by SUNY Canton and will look to build off a solid victory over Misericordia. Nothing builds chemistry like early season road trips and probably a win to make the trip worthwhile – Trine, 4-1

NE-10

St Michael’s v. St Anselm

The Purple Knights and Hawks will play a re-match of last year’s NE-10 title game with neither team having tasted victory this season on the opening weekend. The Hawks have struggled to find goals and keep the opposition off the board so far which will be welcome to Jack Fitzgerald’s squad who pick up a nice road win – St Michael’s, 5-2

SUNYAC

(10) Oswego v. (5) Geneseo

The former SUNYAC rivals rekindle the on-ice passions in a game that should be flat out one of the most entertaining contests on slate for the entire weekend. It truly is a coin flip so going with a tie would be the easy thing to do but I will take the Knights eking it out based on their consistently strong play at “The Ira.” Not sure who the hero will be but it could be in overtime to decide the outcome – Geneseo, 3-2

UCHC

(7) Utica v. (1) Hobart

A re-match of last year’s thrilling national title game is on tap this weekend and the Statesmen have picked up exactly where they left off starting the season 3-0 with wins over Elmira and an overtime thriller Thursday at Utica. Utica dropped a pair to Adrian and is 0-3 after Thursday night so there will be some early season desperation in the air as the Pioneers look to sure up the defensive zone against a deep forward group backed by the best goaltending tandem in the country. After a crazy Thursday night affair, there will be no overtime but same result we have seen before – Hobart, 3-2

WIAC

(12) Wisconsin – Superior v. St Olaf

The Yellowjackets will need to overcome a pair of challenges as they face-off with the Oles. Being the road team is challenge one and catching St Olaf after a thrilling overtime road win at St Norbert will certainly have the team and home crowd jumping. Best way to quiet the crowd is to capture the lead early and that is exactly what UWS does before hanging on for the win – UWS, 3-2

Last week saw some terrific matchups as well as a few surprises. Do not expect anything less this weekend as we are only two weeks into the season and already there are some must win scenarios brewing for teams that need to get their game and results on track – “Drop the Puck!”
