(2) Ohio State at (13) St. Thomas
Ohio State never led in Friday’s game until Sanni Vanhanen scored in overtime to earn her team the win. Whitney Horton scored just 43 seconds into the game to put St. Thomas ahead 1-0. Hilda Svensson tied things up late in the first on a shot from the slot that trickled into the net. OSU dominated 18-1 in shots on goal in the second, but the game stayed tied 1-1 heading into the third. St. Thomas took the lead with about seven to go in regulation, but the Buckeyes took advantage of a late power play, pulling the goalie for an extra attacker. Svensson lit the lamp to tie the game and force overtime. In the extra frame, OSU used their speed in transition and Vanhanen netted the game-winner. On Saturday, the Buckeyes exploded for six goals in the second period, including a hat trick by Joy Dunne, to cruise to an 8-0 win. Dunne actually had four goals and two assists, opening the scoring with the lone goal of the first period. Early in the third, OSU broke it wide open with three goals in 48 seconds as Dunne, Maxine Cimoroni and Vanhanen each lit the lamp to put the game out of reach before four minutes had elapsed in the second. Dunne scored the next two – one at equal strength and one on the power play – to make it 6-0. Sloane Matthews scored in the second and Sara Swiderski scored in the second to close out the win. Freshman goalie Taylor Kressin, who played both games this weekend, earned her first career shutout on Saturday.
(14) Yale at (4) Cornell
Annelies Bergmann earned her fourth shutout in Cornell’s first six games, making 39 saves to help lead her team to a 3-0 win. Goals from Nora Curtis and Beatrice Perron-Roy had the Big Red ahead 2-0 less than seven minutes into the game. Lindzi Avar added a power play goal in the second and the defense shut down the Bulldogs to secure the victory.
(15) Brown at (4) Cornell
The Big Red remain one of just two undefeated teams this season thanks to their win over Brown on Saturday. It was never really in doubt for Cornell as Alyssa Regalado scored on the power play and Georgia Schiff scored in the closing minute of the first to make it a 2-0 game at the first break. In the second, Schiff scored the lone goal of the frame. Karel Prefontaine and McKenna VanGelder each added a power play goal in the third to close out the 5-1 win. Sam Broz’s third period goal ruined the shutout and got Brown on the board.
(5) Minnesota Duluth at (10) St. Cloud State
With Eve Gascon away on international duty, Sophie Villanueva earned her first career win on Friday afternoon as UMD defeated SCSU 5-3. The Huskies got on the board first, as Laura Zimmerman put back a rebound in the opening minutes to make it 1-0 St. Cloud. Molly Cole responded for Minnesota Duluth, picking off a pass and putting it in the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. In the final minute of the first, Rae Mayer sniped a high shot to give the Bulldogs the lead and then just 14 seconds later, Thea Johansson intercepted a puck and took it the length of the ice to score and make it a 3-1 lead for UMD at the intermission. Grace Wolfe pulled one back early in the second to make it 3-2, but Grace Sadura rescinded with a nice wrister to give the Bulldogs a two-goal lead. St. Cloud would not go away without a fight as Raili Mustonen scored early in the third to make it 4-3. But Danielle Burgen scored on the breakaway to make it 5-3 and UMD held strong the rest of the way to earn the win. In the second game, St. Cloud once again scored first as Sofianna Sundelin tipped in a puck late in the second. But Minnesota Duluth immediately responded as Thea Johansson tapped in a pass at the back door to tie the game 1-1 heading into the first intermission. Mayer scored late in the second on a pretty wheel and shoot that put UMD ahead 2-1. Johansson scored her second of the game 29 seconds into the third on a breakaway to make it 3-1. Payton Remick cut the lead to 3-2 a few minutes later and SCSU put the pressure on, throwing 18 shots on net in the final frame, but the Bulldogs stood strong and took the 3-2 win. Villanueva made 63 saves in her debut weekend.
(6) Penn State at Robert Morris
The Nittany Lions are off to a 12-0 start, the best in program history, thanks to a pair of wins over RMU this weekend. On Friday, Grace Outwater, Katelyn Roberts, Mikah Keller and Tessa Janecke each lit the lamp to give PSU the 4-0 win. On Saturday, Maddy Christian led Penn State with two goals and an assist as the Nittany Lions took a second 4-0 win and weekend sweep. Sophie Morrow and Nicole Hall also scored in the win.
Union at (7) Quinnipiac
Tessa Holk set the tone early on a pretty series with Laurence Frenette, lighting the lamp just 2:31 into the game to put the Bobcats up 1-0. Emerson Jarvis’ power play goal extended the lead to 2-0 by the end of the first. Kahlen Lamarche extended the lead in the second with a wrister to make it 3-0. Holk scored her second of the night to make it 4-0 at the second intermission. Quinn Dunkle ruined the shutout, scoring for Union a few minutes into the third, but Lamarche scored again and then Holk completed her first career hat trick, getting behind the defense on a 2-on-1 with Ella Johnson to close out the 6-1 win.
RPI at (7) Quinnipiac
The Bobcats completed a bounce back with a 8-0 win over RPI to complete the weekend sweep. Kahlen Lamarche tallied her third hat trick of the season and Zoe Uens had two goals and an assist to lead Quinnipiac. Emerson Jarvis, Ella Johnson and Tessa Holk also scored in the win.
(8) Connecticut vs Holy Cross (home and home)
After back and forth first half of the first, the rest of the period featured a flurry of goals. First UConn freshman defender True Thompson scored her first career goal and put her team up 1-0. Just 44 seconds later, Holy Cross responded with a goal from Violet Carroll. Peyton Anzivino added her first career goal to put Connecticut back up 2-1. Meghane Duchesne-Chalifoux’s goal a few minutes later sent the Huskies to the intermission up 3-1. The Huskies controlled much of the second frame, but could not break through. In the third, Holy Cross pushed back with goals from Amanda Aslan and Carroll to tie the game 3-3 and force overtime. Kyla Josifovic scored in the extra frame to give UConn the 4-3 OT win. On Sunday, Manny Gendron’s shorthanded goal put Holy Cross up 1-0 after the first. Livvy Dewar took advantage of a 5-on-3 late in the second to tie the game for Connecticut. In the final frame, Megan Woodworth and Christina Walker scored 23 seconds apart to put the Huskies up 3-1. Naemi Herzig’s power play goal brought the lead back to a lone goal, but Holy Cross couldn’t find an equalizer and UConn took the 3-2 win and weekend sweep.
Harvard at (9) Clarkson
It looked like luck might not be on their side on Friday after they hit the post three times, including on the empty net, but Clarkson held out for a 2-1 win. Megan McKay scored on the power play, picking off a clear and putting it right into the back of the net to put the Golden Knights up 1-0. Early in the third, Lara Beecher caused a turnover and carried the puck down the ice on a breakaway, sending it to Sena Catterall, who buried it to make it 2-0. Antonia Dinges scored early in the third on a busted play that led to some chaos in front of the net that she took advantage of. But the Crimson could not find another goal and Clarkson held on to get the 2-1 win.
Dartmouth at (9) Clarkson
Clarkson out-shot the Big Green 29-17 through the first two periods but goalie Jiahui Zhan stood tall to help keep the game scoreless. The posts kept Dartmouth from lighting the lamp early on, but they broke through early in the third as Hamilton Dorster put back a rebound 30 seconds into the frame to make it 1-0. Ella Inglis’ shot was saved around the six minute mark, but Shae Messner was trailing and put away the rebound to make it a 2-0 game. Sophia Chard’s solo effort made it a 3-0 win for the Big Green. It was Dartmouth’s first win over Clarkson since 2019 and their first win at the Golden Knights’ Cheel Arena since 2011.
Boston University vs. (12) Northeastern
In the first, Clara Yuhn batted a puck out of the air to put BU up 1-0. Eloïse Caron tied the game in the second with some pretty puck handling on a steal and solo effort to make it 1-1. It looked like the game was headed for overtime, but a late penalty gave Northeastern the player advantage and Allie Lalonde struck with just 28.4 on the clock to put the Huskies ahead. BU immediately pulled their goalie to try and equalize, but Stryker Zablocki scored on the empty net to secure the 3-1 win. On Saturday, Northeastern jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the midpoint of the game and that proved to be too big a hole for the Terriers to dig out of. Jaden Bogden, Caron, Lily Shannon and Kristina Allard each lit the lamp to make it 4-0. BU pushed back in the second half of the middle frame with goals from Sydney Healey and Greta Henderson to cut the lead in half by the final break. But they couldn’t break through further in the third before Shannon and Bodgen each scored on the power play to give Northeastern a 6-2 lead. Yuhn scored once more for BU, but Morgan Jackson’s empty-netter secured the 7-3 win.
(14) Yale at (11) Colgate
The Raiders took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to goals from Alexia Aubin, Elyssa Biederman and Alexis Petford. Early in the second, Yale was killing a major penalty when Naomi Boucher put the pressure on the forecheck, stole the puck from the goalie and put it in the open net to make it 3-1. With under four to go in the middle frame, Mariya Rauf redirected a slap shot from Gracie Gilkyson to make it 3-2. Emma Pais pulled one back for Colgate just before the end of the second to make it 4-2 heading into the third. Cami Bell put away her own rebound five minutes into the third to make it 4-3. A few minutes later, Molly Boyle’s wrister tied the game. Neither team could break through in regulation and the game headed to overtime. Just 44 seconds in to the extra frame, Boyle won a footrace and found Boucher right in front of the net for the tap in to give Yale the win.
(15) Brown at (11) Colgate
The Bears jumped out to an early lead thanks to a pair of goals from Margot Norehead. She cleaned up a rebound on a shot from Miranda Calderone five minutes in and then two minutes later, took off on a breakaway after India McDadi forced a turnover. But Colgate responded in kind later in the period as Elyssa Biederman and Alexia Audin scored less than two minutes apart to tie the game 2-2. But Brown took the lead into intermission thanks to another turnover that McDadi picked up and carried in alone to make it 3-2. After a scoreless second, Emma Gervais Beauchamp tied things up for Colgate and forced overtime. Neither team could find a game-winner and Brown took the shootout with a goal from Norehad to take the extra point.
