No. 4 Minnesota Duluth at No. 2 Wisconsin
On Saturday, the Badgers jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period thanks to goals from Annie Pankowski and Presley Norby. The Bulldogs tied it up after two with goals from Gabby Hughes and Anna Klein. Two late power plays were the difference, as Britta Curl and Abby Roque netted goals to give Wisconsin the 4-2 win. The Badgers outshot the Bulldogs, 20-2, in the final frame. On Sunday, UMD got on the board first less than a minute into the game when Ashton Bell was able to capitalize on a Badger defensive mistake. From there, it was all Badgers. Natalie Buchbinder scored her first goal of the season and Alexis Mauermann and Brette Pettet each added a tally to give Wisconsin the 3-1 win and the weekend sweep. With the win, his 465th, Wisconsin coach Mark Johnson passed Katey Stone of Harvard to become the all-time winningest coach in women’s Division I history.
No. 3 Minnesota at St. Cloud State
Two first-period goals from Taylor Heise helped Minnesota to a 3-0 lead at the end of one, but St. Cloud came back, answering with goals from Taylor Wemple and Jenniina Nylund before the second period was halfway over. That was the closest the Huskies would get. The Gophers closed it out with two goals from Sarah Potmak and one from Kelly Pannek to take the 6-2 win in game one. On Saturday, Emily Oden led Minnesota with two goals as the Gophers completed the sweep with a 4-1 win.
Minnesota State at No. 5 Ohio State
Emma Maltais, Lisa Bruno, and Samantha Bouley each had a goal and an assist in the Buckeyes’ 4-0 win on Friday. In game two, Liz Schepers gave Ohio State the lead just 1:21 into the game, but the Mavericks were able to tie the game up in the second with a goal from Tristen Truax. Abigal Levy was stellar in net for Minnesota State, making 42 saves — 20 in the third period — to force overtime. Maddy Field netted the game-winner for Ohio State with less than a minute to play in the extra frame, giving the Buckeyes a 2-1 win and the weekend sweep.
No. 10 St. Lawrence at No. 6 Boston College
It took overtime both days, but Boston College managed a pair of 2-1 wins over a ranked opponent this week to right the ship. On Thursday, it was transfer Lindsay Agnew with the overtime goal to give BC the 2-1 win, and on Friday it was Grace Bizal who laid out to tip it in and make it another Eagles victory. St. Lawrence was up 1-0 thanks to a goal from Maggie McLaughlin and looked to be primed for an upset, but Cayla Barnes scored with 28 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
No. 8 Colgate at No. 9 Northeastern
Jessie Eldridge scored late in the first to give Colgate the 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission, and Eleri MacKay doubled the lead just a minute into the second period. Kasidy Anderson brought Northeastern within one just before the second intermission, but Malia Schneider responded to make it 3-1 Colgate. Northeastern closed the gap with a power-play goal from Veronika Pettey, but Julia Vandyk’s 16 third period saves helped clinch the 3-2 win for Colgate. It was a different story on Saturday. The Raiders outshot the Huskies,41-33, but Northeastern took a 3-1 lead out of the first period and never looked back. Matti Hartman scored twice, and Pettey had a goal and an assist to lead the Huskies to a 5-2 win. Coralie LaRose scored both of Colgate’s goals in the loss.
