According to the Buffalo Sabres’ Twitter, Minnesota freshman forward Casey Mittelstadt has given up his last three years of NCAA eligibility to sign with the team on a three-year, entry-level contract.

This season with the Gophers, Mittelstadt was second in team scoring with 11 goals and 30 points in 34 games. He also played for Team USA at the 2018 World Junior Championship and was named the tournament’s top player with four goals among his 11 points.
Mittelstadt was originally drafted eighth overall by Buffalo at the 2017 NHL Draft.
