MARQUETTE, Mich. — Northern Michigan kicked off its WCHA semifinal in the big way as five players tallied goals in the Wildcats’ 6-1 win to open this best-of-three series.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first period thanks to a goal from the Falcon’s Max JOhnson, Northern Michigan stormed back quickly to take a 2-1 lead by the early part of the second period thanks to goals from Troy Loggins and Robbie Payne.
The Wildcats put the game away later in the period as Phil Beaulieu and Anthony Paskaruk scored 27 seconds apart to make it a 4-1 game. Paskaruk’s tally was his first of the season. Michael Slattery and Payne would add the other two goals for Northern Michigan in the third period.
These two teams will play again Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at Berry Events Center in Marquette, Michigan. A Wildcat win gives Northern Michigan a spot in the WCHA championship game.
