Western Michigan paid a visit to Colorado College for a pair of road dates and a potential berth for the final home-ice spot. Western fell short in the race, as their task to contain Colorado College was thwarted. A two-goal third period and a 33 save performance by Alex Leclerc sealed the deal for CC who now sits in fourth place with 31 points.
Cole McCaskill reached the game-winning goal on a 4-on-4 power play at 17:10 of the third period. Nick Halloran and Zach Berzolla were given the assists. The Colorado Springs World Arena of 3,552 in attendance waited out the final couple minutes. Western Michigan had its opportunities on the power play. Although they were not on the man advantage very much, their two opportunities could have been enough to garner them at least tie. That and the fact that CC also went scoreless on the power play.
Austin Rueschhoff scored first for Western Michigan at 8:13 of the first period with helpers by Josh Passolt and Cam Orchard. With the lead at one, and despite outshooting CC the rest of the way, they were not able to withstand the pressure. WMU posted 34 shots compared to CC’s 23.
