The Mavericks defended their 1-seed ranking on night one of a three game series with the Nanooks, winning 8-2. These two teams were tied at one for a good part of the first period, before Reggie Lutz broke open the tie, and the Mavericks never looked back. Brad McClure ended the night with twp goals and Jared Spooner with three assists.
The Mavericks defense played tremendously in front of goaltender Brad Lacouvee, only facing 21 shots the whole night. The Nanooks pulled Goaltender Anton Martinson halfway through the second period for Niko DellaMagiore, making a collective 31 saves between the two.
