With a 34-save performance from goaltender Hayden Lavigne and goals by four different Wolverines, No. 18 Michigan upset No. 1 Notre Dame in South Bend, 4-2.
Michigan led 2-0 after the first period on goals by Adam Winborg at 12:34 and Sam Piazza 15:40. The Fighting Irish scored the first of their two goals of the night, both on the power play, at 1:27 in the second when Joe Wegwerth picked up Matt Hellickson’s rebound. Tony Calderone answered for the Wolverines exactly three minutes later and the score was 3-1 at 4:27 in the second, but with just over a minute to go in the second period, Bobby Nardella scored for Notre Dame and it was a 3-2 game after two.
At 8:08 in the third, freshman Michael Pastujov scored on a pass from his older brother, Nick Pastujov to bring the final score to 4-2.
For the Irish, Cale Morris had 32 saves on 36 shots.
