MADISON, Wis. — Three third-period goals from the Gophers (17-13-1, 8-10-1-1 Big Ten) proved to be the difference in winning by a 4-2 marginat The Kohl Center over the Badgers (14-14-4, 8-10-3-1 Big Ten).

Matthew Freytag got the Badgers on the board in the first with his sixth goal of the season, with the assist from Matt Ustaski.

Minnesota’s Steve Johnson scored his fourth goal of the season in the second off assists from Leon Bristedt and Brannon McManus.

Tyler Sheehy’s goal only 39 seconds into the third period off assists from Brent Gates and Tommy Novak gave Minnesota the lead.

Ustaski responed with his first goal at the 2:14 mark off assists from Freytag and Jason Ford.

But Sheehy answered with a goal at 15:12 with an assist from Novak and Brent Gates, Jr. and Darian Romanko added an empty goal at 18:23 to seal the win.

Mat Robson had 38 saves for the the Gophers and Kyle Hayton had 35 for the Badgers.
