The host Catamounts jumped out to a 2-0 lead through forty minutes of play but couldn’t hold off a hard-charging UMass Lowell team which scored twice in the third and celebrated the victory on Connor Wilson’s overtime game as the River Hawks escape with a 3-2 victory at Gutterson Fieldhouse.
A first-period goal by Jake Massie followed by a Laim Coughlin tally midway through the second gave the Cats a 2-0 advantage.
That lasted until the 9:40 mark of the third when Charlie Levesque cut the lead to one. Then, while shorthanded, the River Hawks found the equalizer off the stick of Connor Sodergren with 7:03 to play.
The loss spoiled a 31-save effort for Vermont’s Stefanos Lekkas. Lowell’s Tyler Wall stopped 21 two win his second straight for the River Hawks.
