Before a crowed of 5,609, the Baxter Arena in Omaha witnessed their team erupt for 11 goals in what is the highest scoring game of the NCHC season thus far. Omaha put up 33 shots and Miami had 26 looks in the night. The power play helped on seven total goals in the game, with Omaha going four-for-six on the man advantage.
Both teams traded goals in the third period, much to Miami’s dismay, as the RedHawks were looking to complete a rally. The game was within reach for Miami going into the third period (7-5) when Gordie Green scored at 3:12 on the assists by Karch Bachman and Josh Melnick. Omaha was on the power play to end the second period when David Pope lit the lamp for Omaha to make it 7-4 and put more pressure on the opponents offensive initiative.
Omaha scored two straight goals by Zach Jordan at 13:11 and Tyler Vesel at 16:58 of the second period that were sandwiched by a pair of Miami goals. Despite the amount of scores, Miami was within one from tying the game when Phil Knies and Louie Belpedio contributed to cut the margin to 4-3 by 11:17 of the second period. Omaha scored two straight goals in the first period by Grant Gallo and Jake Randolph to get the puck behind the net for the first of many in the night.
