Evan Weninger made 34 saves and Omaha scored two power-play goals in the second period en route to a 4-1 win over No. 6 North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Fredrik Olofsson got the Mavericks on the board first at 10:44 of the first, but Shane Gersich tied it at 17:23 with a penalty shot goal five-hole. The penalty shot was called after Grant Gallo hauled down a North Dakota player on a breakaway.
However, the second period was all Omaha. Luke Nogard banged home a rebound of a Zach Jordan shot at 8:20, and then David Pope scored another power-play goal at 12:17 with a one-timer slap shot from the right point that beat Cam Johnson top corner stick side.
At the other end, Weninger was sensational, making 20 saves in the second alone. Early in the third, he came up big on a North Dakota breakaway.
That proved costly for North Dakota, as Jordan made it 4-1 Omaha at 10:16, taking control of a North Dakota turnover at the Omaha blue line and going the length of the ice to score, ripping a snap shot top corner glove side from the right faceoff dot.
