The Hamline women’s and men’s teams have a new home to skate in — one with a panoramic view of downtown St. Paul.
The Pipers officially moved their gear into locker rooms at the TRIA Rink at Treasure Island Center, located on the corner on 6th and Wabasha Streets in downtown St. Paul, this week.
Both teams held practices there in anticipation of games this weekend.
The arena, which is on the fifth floor of the old Macy’s building, will be the main practice facility for the NHL’s Minnesota Wild.
In all, each hockey team is scheduled play eight regular season games in TRIA in 2018. In addition to handling the needs of the Wild and Hamline, the arena will host several youth tournaments and clinics.
“We are thrilled to be playing in this beautiful building,” said Hamline athletic director Jason Verdugo in a statement. “We feel it is one of the neatest facilities in the country for a D-III team.”
The arena will seat approximately 1,200 fans. One unique aspect of the place is a large window on the south wall that overlooks part of St. Paul.
Hamline will also be represented on a large mural that was painted outside the building.
