Mannella’s 35 saves lead St. Lawrence in shutout win over UMass Lowell

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The Saints entered this weekend’s Catamount Cup in Vermont with just one win on the season, but Daniel Mannella’s 35-save shutout lifted them to a second consecutive victory and a tournament title Saturday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Joe Sullivan scored the game-winning goal short-handed just 9:43 into the contest, while Mike Marnell and Philip Alftberg each tallied in the final three minutes of the second period to lift SLU to the convincing victory.

Christoffer Hernberg made 25 saves for Lowell, which held a 35-28 shot advantage in the game but went 0-for-7 on the power play. The loss was just Hernberg’s third in 13 decisions this season.
