WORCESTER, Mass. — The visiting Pioneers scored five second-period goals in a wild Atlantic Hockey series finale at Hart Center, but Michael Laffin scored two of the hosts’ three goals in the third to complete a hat trick en route to a 5-5 draw. Holy Cross posted a 38-36 shot advantage in a game in which it trailed 5-2 after two periods.
Vito Bavaro and Liam Clare each posted three-point games, while Austin McIlmurray scored two goals for SHU. Pete Kessel gave the Crusaders a 1-0 lead before his team surrendered the next three on the power play and five of the next six overall. Laffin scored at 9:44 and 11:22 before Scott Pooley’s 16th goal of the season tied the game for Holy Cross at 18:07.
Brett Magnus made 33 saves for Sacred Heart, including 13 in the third period. Paul Berrafato posted 31 in the Holy Cross net.
