After originally being diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in May 2014, former Providence player Drew Brown is still battling the rare form of bone cancer.
Brown was a junior at Providence when he suffered a hit to his left leg during a playoff hockey game. After a few weeks of ongoing pain in his leg, Brown was notified that the results of an MRI showed a suspicious tumor.
Over the next year, Brown received chemotherapy treatment and surgery on his femur to remove the tumor.
After Providence won the national title in 2015, Brown returned to school as a student assistant coach for the Friars and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 2016.
Unfortunately, in the spring of 2016, the cancer returned, this time spreading to his lungs.
According to a GoFundMe account set up for Brown, the past few weeks has shown the cancer to take a turn for the worse. Brown spent a week in the hospital, but is now home in Michigan regaining his strength. He needs 24/7 care and his fiancé, mother, father and sister are happy to be there with him providing that care.
However, with this care and continuous treatment comes a financial strain and any donations to the GoFundMe are appreciated.
