Another weekend of hockey is history, and among the highlights was Hamline’s upset victory over Wisconsin-Stevens Point on the road. Saint Mary’s swept St. Thomas for the first time in more than 40 years. Wisconsin-Eau Claire looked like the nationally ranked team that it is, sweeping through its weekend. St. Norbert dominated both of its games in NCHA action, and St. Scholastica moved within a victory of its 500th win in program history.

MIAC
Augsburg: The Auggies crushed Wisconsin-Superior 6-1 Friday. Six different players scored goals. and Luke Dietsch paved the way with a goal and two assists. Drew Anderson added a goal and an assist, while Nick Schmit racked up 21 saves to remain unbeaten. Augsburg rallied for a 3-2 win Saturday over Wisconsin-River Falls. It’s the third time this year the Auggies have had to battle back for a victory. Gunnar Goodmanson scored the game-winner with a minute remaining in regulation. The goal is the first of his career. Augsburg has outscored its opponents 16-6 and is unbeaten through four games.
Bethel: The Royals fell 6-2 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire Friday and remained winless on the year. Peter Barral and Dallas Marvin both scored goals. Bethel wrapped up its Wisconsin trip Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Oliver Trachsel and Barral both scored to tie the game 2-2 before the Pointers pulled away.
Concordia: The Cobbers scored the first three goals of the game to knock off Wisconsin-Stout Friday night and secure their first victory of the year. Nine players earned points in the win. Zach Doerring scored his second goal of the year, and Jacob Stephan made 22 saves for his first win.
Gustavus Adolphus: The Gusties won their first game of the year, knocking off St. Olaf, 3-1. They scored the first two goals and never looked back. Colton Schmidt scored his second goal of the season, and Dominic Picciano punched in his first collegiate goal. The Gusties struggled Saturday though, falling 6-2 to St. Olaf. Tyler Rock and Tom Donohue scored for Gustavus.
Hamline: The Pipers went on the road Friday and nailed down an impressive upset win of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, topping the Pointers 2-1. Mitch McPherson and Brandon Reinholz both scored off the power play, and Justin Quale was stellar, stopping 26 shots against the No. 3 team in the nation. Hamline wasn’t as fortunate Saturday, falling 7-0 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Pipers took just 16 shots.
Saint John’s: The power play was Saint John’s best friend in its 6-2 win over Wisconsin-River Falls. They scored four times on special teams to snap an 11-game winless streak against the Falcons. Andrew Lindgren made 24 saves for his sixth career win. Adam Orn and Sam Valerius both tallied a goal and an assist. The Johnnies capped their perfect weekend Saturday with a 4-1 win over Wisconsin-Stout, starting the season 4-0 for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Ten different players scored a point. Brady Heppner scored his third goal, and Travis Brown and Garrett Riebling each tallied a goal and an assist while Mac Berglove tallied 29 saves. He’s 2-0.
Saint Mary’s: The Cardinals dominated St. Thomas 4-1 Friday night behind two goals from Jay Heinle and a tremendous performance in goal by Aaron Davis, who made 25 saves. They continued their success Saturday, holding an opponent to a goal for the fourth time this season in a shootout win. Kevin Walz tied the game at 1-1 in regulation, and Heinle punched in the lone goal in shootout action to lift the Cardinals to the win. Davis came through with 25 saves for the second consecutive night to help Saint Mary’s sweep the Tommies for the first time since 1970-71.
St. Olaf: Roshen Jaswal scored the lone goal for the Oles in a 3-1 loss to Gustavus Adolphus at home. They were outshot 32-22. The Oles bounced back in a big way Saturday behind a hat trick by Chris Koziel. He scored the first two goals of the game to set the tone for his big night. Drew Otto and Tukka Totro finished with two assists apiece. Otto also scored a goal.
St. Thomas: The Tommies managed just one goal in a 4-1 loss to Saint Mary’s Friday. Tanner Barnes scored the lone goal on a night when St. Thomas never led. The Tommies seemed poised for a win Saturday, leading 1-0 before falling in a shootout after regulation ended in a 1-1 tie. Johnny Panvica scored the only goal for the Tommies.
NCHA
Adrian: The Bulldogs dominated Lawrence in their season opener, rolling to a 5-1 win Friday. Taylor McCloy punched in two goals, and Cory Dunn dished out two assists. Kyle Brothers came through with two assists as well. Adrian capped off its impressive weekend with a 5-0 win over Marian Saturday. The second-ranked team in the nation was paced by Kevin Entmaa, who notched his first shutout in a little over a year. He made 18 saves.
Aurora: The Spartans lost their opener, 5-2, against St. Scholastica Friday despite goals from Tim Faulkner and Ashton Amava. They skated to a 2-2 tie against Northland Saturday, thanks to a pair of goals from Nick Minerva. He came through with the game-tying goal with 25 seconds left in the game.
Concordia: The Falcons allowed three goals in the third period in a 6-2 loss to St. Norbert Friday. Brett Garvey and Dante Hahn both scored for Concordia. They recovered with a 3-0 win over Finlandia Saturday, scoring a goal in each period for their third win. Hahn scored his second goal of the weekend. Jac Romanulk tallied 16 saves for his first career shutout.
Finlandia: Finlandia opened the weekend with a 5-0 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering. Matt Arnold started in goal and made 33 saves. The Lions ended their weekend with a 3-0 loss to Concordia Saturday. Marcus Gloss played well in goal, stopping 38 shots.
Lake Forest: Davis DeKorte scored his first career goal, but the Foresters allowed four goals in the final seven minutes of play to fall 5-2 to Northland. George Gerasimou punched in his second goal of the year. Lake Forest rebounded with a 1-0 win over St. Scholastica Saturday behind the first career shutout from Louis-Phillippe De Courcy. It was the Foresters’ ninth 1-0 win in program history. Connor Duncan scored the goal.
Lawrence: The Vikings got their lone goal from Nick Felan in a 5-1 loss to Adrian Friday. He scored the goal in the third period as Lawrence dropped its season opener. Lawrence pounded Trine, 6-2, Saturday to win its first game. The Vikings scored three goals in the final period. Lane King paved the way with two power-play goals.
Marian: An offensive outburst lifted Marian to a 9-2 win over Trine Friday night. Derek Thorogood fueled the attack with a hat trick. He tallied an assist as well. Hunter Stewart scored a goal and dished out two assists. The Sabres were unable to come up with a goal in a 5-0 loss to Adrian Saturday. Hunter Vorva came up with 39 saves.
Milwaukee School of Engineering: Zach Simpson and Brett Wagner scored two goals apiece, and Zach Woodman recorded his second shutout of the year in a 5-0 win over Finlandia Friday. The Raiders scored four of their goals off special teams. Woodman racked up 23 saves. The offense struggled Saturday against St. Norbert, however, managing only one goal in a 4-1 loss. Will Gauthier had the lone goal as MSOE lost its first game.
Northland: It was an emotional night for Northland in its game against Lake Forest Friday night. The Lumberjacks honored fallen teammate Chris Morgan prior to the game, retiring his jersey, and then went out and skated to a 5-2 win. Lucas DeBenedet paved the way with two goals, and Josh Racek scored a goal and dished out two assists. Morgan was killed tragically over the summer in a hit-and-run, and his teammates honored him in the best way possible. The Lumberjacks skated to a 2-2 tie against Aurora Saturday. Kalib Ford and Kurt Sonne both scored goals.
St. Norbert: The Green Knights rolled past Concordia 6-2 Friday. Six different players scored goals, and T.J. Black racked up 12 saves in the season opener. Riley Christensen tallied three assists, and Keegan Milligan came through with a goal and an assist. St. Norbert topped Milwaukee School of Engineering, 4-1, Saturday thanks to a big game from Tanner Froese, who scored a goal and added two assists to his stat line as well for the second consecutive night. Peter Bates tallied three assists. Sean Campbell scored a goal and recorded an assist as well.
St. Scholastica: The Saints topped Aurora 5-2 in their opener, improving to 11-1 in their last 12 NCHA home games. Brett Radford came through with a goal and an assist, while Nick Trenciansky won the first game of his career behind a 24-save effort. St. Scholastica was aiming for its 500th win in program history, but will have to wait for it after falling 1-0 to Lake Forest Saturday. The loss is the first of the year for the Saints.
Trine: The Thunder is still looking for its first win after dropping both of its games over the weekend. They fell 9-2 to Marian Friday. Lucas Bombardier scored his second goal of the year, and Alex Johanson tallied the other goal. Trine only trailed by a goal heading into the third period of Saturday’s game against Lawrence, but fell 6-2. Jackson Tucker scored his first goal, and Tanner Bennett scored the other goal.
WIAC
Wisconsin-Eau Claire: The nationally ranked Blugolds dominated Bethel in a 6-2 win Friday. It’s their seventh consecutive win over the Royals dating back to 2006. Alex Strand came through with two goals. Camden Haugenoe stopped 30 shots and won his second game. Wis.-Eau Claire capped the weekend with a 7-0 win over Hamline Saturday behind the first career shutout for Haugenoe. Jake Bresser came through with a goal and an assist.
Wisconsin-River Falls: The weekend began with a 6-2 win over Saint John’s. Zach Quinn gave up five goals on a rare off night for the top goalie in the WIAC. Cayden Cahill and Max Doner both scored goals. The Falcons had a tough end to their weekend as they let a lead slip away in a 3-2 loss to Augsburg Saturday. Wis.-River Falls led, 2-1, going into the final period. Cahill and Thomas Clayton both scored for the Falcons, who are winless through four games.
Wisconsin-Stevens Point: The Pointers suffered a stunning 2-1 loss to Hamline Friday, as their home opener was spoiled by the Pipers. Zach Zech struck for his first collegiate goal. Saturday night went much better for Wis.-Stevens Point, which rolled to a 6-3 win over Bethel. Carter Roo scored two goals and also dished out an assist, while Tanner Karty was in a giving mood in the win as he dished out three assists. Logan Fredericks punched in a goal and an assist as the Pointers improved to 3-1.
Wisconsin-Superior: The Yellowjackets struggled on both ends of the ice in a 6-1 loss to Augsburg Friday night. Tanner Skaja scored the lone goal, and Kyle Miller made 27 saves as Wis.-Superior dropped its third consecutive game. Wis.-Superior has given up four or more goals in each of its first three games and hasn’t scored more than two goals in a game.
Wisconsin-Stout: A comeback fell short for Wisconsin-Stout in a 3-2 loss to Concordia. The Blue Devils scored two goals in the third period after falling behind 3-0. Mathias Ahman and Kyle Sylvester both scored goals. Conner Valesano assisted on both goals. The Blue Devils got 20 saves from Alaska Anchorage transfer Evan Hauser, but couldn’t get the offense going in a 4-1 loss to Saint John’s Saturday.
