No. 1 Denver 2, No. 4 Notre Dame 2 (OT)

Top-ranked Denver opened up its NCAA title defense with a hard-fought road tie against Big Ten member Notre Dame behind two goals from Finnish sensation Henrik Borgstrom.

Irish goalie Dylan St. Cyr was outstanding, making 46 saves while DU’s Tanner Jaillet recorded 27.

Bemidji State 5, No. 5 Minnesota Duluth 2

The host Beavers scored three goals in less than four minutes during the third period to put away fifth-ranked Bulldogs.

BSU’s Gerry Fitzgerald recorded three points (two assists) as five different Beavers scored.  Blake Young and Karson Kuhlman scored for the UMD.

No. 6 St. Cloud State 6, Alaska 3

Sixth-ranked St. Cloud State pumped in five unanswered goals to upend the visiting Nanooks and spoil the Western Collegiate Hockey Association member’s hopes of a road win at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.

Nick Poehling and Jimmy Schuldt each scored twice to park the rally, which began with Poehling’s tally with about five minutes left in the first. UAF took a 3-0 lead with 11:31 left in the opening frame thanks to a goal and assist for Ryker Lee and two assists by Steven Jandric. Jack Poehling and Robby Jackson completed the scoring for the Huskies.

 No. 8 North Dakota 1, St. Lawrence 1

Collin Adams scored a late power-play goal to lift eighth-ranked North Dakota past ECAC St. Lawrence in UND’s home opener.

UND’s Ludvig Hoff opened the scoring with about 11 seconds left in the first period. St. Lawrence tied it with a goal by Joe Sullivan with 5:12 left in the second. Cam Johnson made 20 saves for the win while Arthur Brey stopped 26.

 Omaha 4, No. 12 UMass-Lowell 2

Joel Messner recorded two goals and assisted another as the visiting Mavericks jumped out to a 4-0 lead to chase UMass Lowell starter Tyler Wall and knock off Hockey East’s RiverHawks at the Tsongas Center.

Messner’s first goal came with less than a second left in the first period for a 2-0 lead.

Power-play goals for Lowell’s Tommy Panico and Tyler Mueller accounted for the final margin with Mueller’s tally coming with 15 seconds left in third. Omaha’s Evan Weninger made 29 saves to help new coach Mike Gabinet record his first win at the Omaha helm.

 Western Michigan 2, Clarkson 2 (OT)

Dawson DiPietro scored twice, including the tying goal midway through the second period, as the host Broncos held on for a tie against the ECAC’s Golden Knights.

WMU’s Ben Blacker made 32 saves while Clarkson’s Jake Kielly had 29. Devin Brosseau recorded a goal and assist for Clarkson.
