Women’s coaching veteran Lachapelle tabbed associate head coach at Holy Cross

lachapelleHoly Cross has named Katie Lachapelle its new associate head women’s coach, as announced by head coach Peter Van Buskirk.

Lachapelle comes to Holy Cross after spending the previous nine seasons as an assistant coach at Boston University. In 2013, she received the Women’s Ice Hockey Assistant Coach Award from the American Hockey Coaches Association.

“I am excited to have Katie Lachapelle joining our program,” said Holy Cross head coach Peter Van Buskirk in a statement. “She brings a wealth of coaching experience, both on the Division I level and in international competition. I look forward to her helping in the exciting evolution of our program.”

Lachapelle has been an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team since April 2013. She has helped lead Team USA to three straight gold medals at the IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship, most recently in 2017 in the Czech Republic. She also won gold in Buffalo, N.Y., in 2015, and again in St. Catharines, Ont., in 2016. In addition, Lachapelle has also coached at USA Hockey camps for several years, helping at various Girls Select 14, 15 and 16 Player Development Camps.

Prior to her time at BU, Lachapelle was an assistant coach at Ohio State from 2004 to 2008 and at Niagara from 2001 to 2004. She began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Union for two seasons from 1999 to 2001.

Lachappelle is a 1999 graduate of Providence and was a four-year letter-winner for the Friars, serving as a team captain and being selected to the 1997 ECAC All-Star team.
