Connelly returns to alma mater as Wisconsin’s interim director of hockey operations

Wisconsin announced Thursday the return of Shane Connelly to the program as the former Badgers goaltender takes over as interim director of hockey operations.

“It is great to bring in another one of our own,” Wisconsin coach Tony Granato said in a statement. “He’s always been a loyal Badger, and he had great success when he was here.

“The most important thing is that he knows this place and he knows all three of the coaches and all the support staff. That will help tremendously when he jumps right into the job with us in the middle of the year.”

In his role, Connelly takes on travel arrangements, among a myriad of duties.

A Badger from 2005 to 2009, Connelly finished his career with a 41-36-11 mark, while ranking among the school’s top five with a 2.39 GAA, .913 save percentage and eight shutouts.

Connelly comes back to Madison with operations experience, having spent three years in a similar post with Bowling Green.

He left the Falcons following the 2013-14 season to become an assistant coach with the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, where he spent his time through this past November.
