Northern Michigan announced Monday afternoon that forwards Demico Hannoun and Brett Heikkila will join the Wildcats for the second half of the 2016-17 season.
Hannoun played for three teams over the course of five BCHL seasons and suited up for Penticton during the past two seasons, registering 74 points (37 goals, 37 assists) in 90 regular-season games. In 2015, he helped the Vees win a BCHL championship and the Western Canada Cup tournament. During the BCHL playoffs, he led Penticton in points (21) and assists (13) and ranked third in goals (8).
Heikkila, a Marquette, Mich., native, spent the past three seasons with the NAHL’s Minnesota Wilderness, posting 56 points (30 goals, 26 assists) in 147 regular-season games and in 2015, helped the Wilderness win its first Robertson Cup. In Minnesota’s title-clinching 4-0 victory over Austin, he netted a pair of goals.
Hannoun and Heikkila are the seventh and eighth members of NMU’s class of 2020.
