Weekend wrap: Nov. 6

Lake Forest at No. 10 St. Scholastica
Maddie Davis and Julia Unterseher scored in the final four minutes of the third period on Friday to secure the 4-3 win for Lake Forest. Abby Sawyer had two goals for St. Scholastica in the loss. On Saturday, St. Scholastica had the lead twice before three second-period goals from the Foresters secured a second 4-3 win. Kayla Griffith led Lake Forest with a goal and an assist.

No. 3 Elmira at Neumann
Elmira outshot Neumann 41-9 on Friday, but needed a late goal from Meghan Fonara — her second of the game — to secure a 2-1 victory. Jordyn Cholish scored for Neumann. On Saturday, Elmira showed why they are ranked third in the nation as they rolled to a 7-0 win. L. Lippiat Durnell scored her first goal of the season less than a minute into the game and then added a goal and three assists and Sydney Fischer also had two goals.

No. 9 Utica at Buffalo State
On Friday, Erin Gehen scored less than four minutes into the game to get Buffalo State on the board first. Utica’s Meghan Power answered less than five minutes later to even the game at one. Rachel Lenard scored a power-play goal for the Bengals just before the end of the second period and that would be enough to give Buffalo State the upset win. On Saturday, the Bengals killed a five-on-three power play with less than nine minutes to go in the game. That gave them the momentum and Erin Gehen scored the game’s only goal with 1:47 left to go in the game to give Buffalo State the sweep.

No. 1 Plattsburgh at William Smith
Plattsburgh outshot William Smith 54-16 on Saturday, but needed to come from behind to win 2-1. Stephanie Hampton scored for William Smith just five minutes into the game. Erin Brand evened the score a minute before the period break and Jordan Lipson scored the game-winner midway through the second to give the top-ranked Cardinals the win. All three goals were scored on the power play. On Sunday, five different Cardinals scored to give Plattsburgh the 5-1 win. Erin Brand led with a goal and two assists. Jordan Roetzer scored for William Smith.

No. 6 St. Thomas at No. 2 Wisconsin-River Falls
Wis.-River Falls needed a power-play goal from Carly Moran with less than four minutes to go in the game to secure a 2-1 win over St. Thomas. Bella Wagner opened the scoring for the Falcons midway through the second period. Rachel Werdin scored an unassisted goal for St. Thomas less than a minute into the third period to tie the game at one.

The rest of the top 10
No. 8 Norwich blanked Salve Regina 5-0 and followed it with a win in a high-scoring affair against Manhattanville, 7-4.

No. 5 Adrian defeated St. Norbert, 3-1, and swept its weekend with a win over Concordia (Wis.), by an identical 3-1 score.

No. 2 Wisconsin-River Falls jumped all over Bethel, 7-1.

Weekend wrap: Nov. 6

No. 7 St. Lawrence 3, at No. 10 Princeton 1
Dakota Golde scored her first collegiate goal for St. Lawrence and Justine Reyes and Nadine Edney added tallies to lead the Saints past the Tigers. Princeton’s Kiersten Falck ended Grace Harrison’s shutout streak at 226 minutes, 15 seconds with a third-period goal.

No. 8 Clarkson 4, at No. 5 Quinnipiac 1
In a rematch of the 2016 NCAA tournament quarterfinal, Clarkson once again came out on top, this time with a 4-1 win over Quinnipiac. Josiane Pozzebon, Corie Jacobson, Jessica Gillham, and Cayley Mercer each scored for the Golden Knights.

Boston University and Boston College (home-and-home)
The home team prevailed in each game of this rivalry. On Friday, Boston College freshman Delaney Belinskas scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period to lead the Eagles past Boston University 5-3. Sammy Davis scored twice for BU, but it was not enough.

On Saturday, Boston University scored five third-period goals, including the final four of the game, to take a 5-3 win. Mary Parker had a goal and three assists and Victoria Bach had two goals and an assist for the Terriers. Freshman Deziray De Sousa’s first collegiate goal was the game-winner.

Syracuse at Robert Morris
On Friday, the two teams combined for 22 penalties through 65 minutes of action. Syracuse took a 2-1 lead on Emily Coastales’ power-play goal with less than two minutes to go, but Robert Morris forced overtime on Kirsten Welsh’s power-play goal with 8.1 seconds left in regulation. On Saturday, Aneta Ledlova and Jaycee Gebhard gave the Colonials a 2-0 lead in the first period. Lindsey Eastwood cut the lead in half with less than two minutes to go in the game, but Syracuse wasn’t able to find the net again and RMU won 2-1.

No. 8 Clarkson 4, at No. 10 Princeton 2
Cassidy Tucker and Morgan Sly had Princeton up 2-0 after the first period, but four unanswered goals from Clarkson gave them the win. Loren Gabel scored the Golden Knights’ first and last goals. Kelly Mariani’s power-play goal just more than a minute into the third period proved to be the game-winner.

No. 7 St. Lawrence 1, at No. 5 Quinnipiac 0
St. Lawrence is now unbeaten in its first 10 games. Brooke Webster netted the game’s only goal just give minutes into the game. She now has a 13-game point streak dating back to last season. Grace Harrison saved all 20 shots she faced to secure the win. The Saints defense added 18 blocks to help stifle Quinnipiac.

The rest of the top 10
Minnesota swept Minnesota State, 5-0 and 8-1. Dani Cameranesi had five goals and two assists on the weekend.

Wisconsin swept Bemidji State, 5-0 and 6-0. Badgers goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens recorded her 43rd and 44th career shutouts, setting a new NCAA record. Wisconsin’s Sarah Nurse tallied her third short-handed goal of the season and her 100th point as a Badger.
