The Big Ten announced Monday a pair of suspensions for an altercation that occurred near the end of the game between Minnesota and Wisconsin on Jan. 17.
Wisconsin junior defenseman Eddie Wittchow, who received a one-game suspension for a disqualification penalty in the game, has been suspended for one additional game under the conference’s supplemental discipline process. The action was taken by the conference after a review of an incident that occurred near the 19:29 mark of the third period and resulted in Wittchow receiving a major penalty for contact to the head and a game disqualification. As a disqualification penalty is accompanied by an automatic one-game suspension, Wittchow is ineligible to play in Wisconsin’s next two games scheduled for Jan. 23 and 24 against Michigan.
In addition, Minnesota sophomore forward Vinni Lettieri has been suspended for one game for leaving the bench during the same altercation at the 19:29 mark of the third period. Lettieri is ineligible to play in Minnesota’s next game on Jan. 23 against Minnesota State.
