Providence adds longtime Denver assistant Miller to coaching staff

Providence announced Monday the addition of Steve Miller to the staff as a new assistant coach.

Miller spent 20 seasons as an assistant and associate coach at Denver, helping the Pioneers to two national championships in 2004 and 2005

“We are extremely excited to be adding Steve to our staff,” Friars’ head coach Nate Leaman said in a statement. “He will bring a tremendous amount of knowledge, hard work and experience to the position, including winning national championships, and we are equally as excited to be adding such a great person to our staff.”

“I am just so thankful for the opportunity to be joining this great the staff with Coach Leaman and Coach [Ben] Barr,” Miller added. “I am really excited to be able to help continue building on the Providence College hockey tradition and can’t wait to get started.”

In October of 2013, Miller was named the first general manager and head coach of the United States Hockey League’s expansion franchise in Madison, Wis., but resigned in May 2014.
