The Carolina Hurricanes announced Wednesday that they have signed Michigan junior forward Phil Di Giuseppe to a three-year, entry-level contract.
“We’re pleased that Phil has chosen to begin his professional hockey career,” said Carolina vice president of hockey operations Ron Francis in a news release. “He’s got good size and adds to our organization’s depth at forward.”
Di Giuseppe recorded 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points in 35 games with the Wolverines during the 2013-14 season.
Originally selected by the Hurricanes in the second round (38th overall) of the 2012 NHL draft, Di Giuseppe compiled 33 goals and 45 assists for 78 points in 116 career games at Michigan.
“These last three years with my teammates here have been great,” Di Giuseppe said in a Michigan news release. “These are three years I’ll never forget and I’m glad I came to Michigan. Playing for Red Berenson and his coaching staff, it’s an honor to play for this team. Every game at Yost was memorable and I’d like to thank the fans for making it a great environment.”
