Colorado College freshman defenseman Gustav Olofsson has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild.

Olofsson, Minnesota’s second-round pick (46th overall) in the 2013 NHL draft, will report to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League on an amateur tryout.

“We’re excited to get Gus under contract,” Wild assistant GM Brent Flahr said in a statement. “His performance this year at the World Junior Championship and at Colorado College exceeded our expectations and we’re confident that he’s ready for the next challenge in his young career. His skill set really excites us and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue his development at the pro level.”

The Sweden native scored four goals and four assists for eight points in 30 games with the Tigers.

Olofsson helped lead Sweden to a silver medal at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden.
