Haar, Western Michigan decide to part ways after two seasons

After initially being ruled academically ineligible for the fall semester, Western Michigan defenseman Garrett Haar has been released from the team.

“Garrett has not lived up to his commitment to his academics and his Bronco hockey teammates and we have decided to part ways with him,” said WMU coach Andy Murray in a news release Friday.

Haar appeared in 58 games over two seasons with the Broncos, tallying four goals and 13 assists for 17 points.

A Washington Capitals’ draft pick in 2011, Haar tweeted Friday that he may be heading to play in the Western Hockey League and that he was not “kicked off the team,” but that this situation was all his decision.
