Only MSOE and Northland will be playing this weekend, as they take on three MIAC opponents. MSOE will be on the road playing Hamline Friday night before taking on St. John’s on Saturday. Northland will travel to Concordia on Saturday for a two-game series.
My nonconference picking from last week was far from stellar, as I went 4-6-1 (.363). Ouch! That brings my season record to 29-20-2 (.568). Here’s hoping for more accurate picking this week, but more importantly, some great hockey games!
Friday-Saturday, Dec.14-15
MSOE at Hamline, MSOE at St. John’s
Last weekend, MSOE (8-3-1) swept past Marian, highlighted by senior captain Brad Tierney’s 2-1-3 scoring line, who earned MCHA Player of the Week honors. This weekend, the Raiders will play two MIAC teams, starting with Hamline (0-11-2) on Friday night. On Saturday night, MSOE will face off against St. John’s (4-4-1). I think the Raiders will win both nonconference tilts. MSOE 4-1, 3-1
Saturday-Sunday, Dec. 15-16
Northland at Concordia (Minn.)
Northland (2-7-1) will face off against the Concordia Cobbers (4-6-1) of the MIAC. Last weekend, Northland beat Bethel, 6-3. On Saturday, the Lumberjacks fought to a 3-3 tie against Augsburg. Rookie goalie Mason Riley earned MCHA Freshman of the Week honors for his play in those games. Both teams competing this weekend have scored 21 goals, with the Lumberjacks playing one less game. I’m hoping Northland continues to go unbeaten this weekend with a pair of wins. Northland 3-2, 3-1
