Boston University’s Oksanen out two games on NCAA punishment

Boston University freshman defenseman Ahti Oksanen will miss the first two regular season games because his junior team played two games with what the NCAA considers a professional player, a school spokesperson confirmed.

The NCAA punishment for such an infraction is one game for each instance, thus the two-game penalty.

Oksanen played for the Espoo Blues U20s in his native Finland last season and split the 2010-11 season between the Blues’ Under-18 and Under-20 teams.

The punishment was reported by the Daily Free Press on Twitter.

Oksanen had two assists in Boston University’s 5-0 exhibition win over Toronto last Sunday. The Terriers’ first two games are at home against Providence on Saturday and at New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 20.
