Last week’s picks were perfection, which certainly surprised me as much as anyone else.
In an unusual bit of scheduling for Division III, the ECAC West plays in three weekend series with nonconference foes this week. Neumann travels to Fredonia and Manhattanville hosts Potsdam each for a pair of games. And Elmira plays a home-and-home series with Morrisville.
Last Week: 9-0
Overall: 35-12 (.745)
{predicted winners bolded}
Friday, January 13 & Saturday, January 14 Series
Morrisville/Elmira — Elmira beat Morrisville 4-1 last weekend in the consolation game of the Norwich Classic tournament. The Soaring Eagles soundly outshot Morrisville 39-16. Two more performances like that should lead to an Elmira sweep.
Neumann at Fredonia — Neumann is on a seven game nonconference winning streak, averaging nearly six goals-per-game during that stretch. Fredonia will have problems containing such a potent offense. Neumann sweep.
Potsdam at Manhattanville — Playland Ice Casino is a tough place to play for any visiting team, but Manhattanville has been inconsistent in scoring goals this season. Potsdam and the Valiants appear to be evenly matched, so I’ll call for a split, Manhattanville wins Friday night, but Potsdam evens it out Saturday.
Saturday, January 14
Nichols at Hobart — After giving up too many turnovers against Geneseo on Wednesday, Hobart will take out its frustrations on Nichols.
Utica at Oswego — Utica beat Oswego 3-2 way back in October at The Aud. This time the Lakers are at home looking for revenge.
Tuesday, January 17
Buffalo State at Hobart — Buffalo State used three third period goals to beat Hobart a month ago, despite being outshot 34-23. That has stuck in the craw of the Statesmen ever since.
Manhattanville at Curry — Curry and Manhattanville tied 2-2 a week ago, with three of the four goals scored by special teams. This time the game is at Curry, so I’m picking the homestanders.
