Michigan has named former player Brian Wiseman the team’s new assistant coach.
Wiseman, a four-year letter winner (1991-94) and Hobey Baker finalist with the Wolverines, was an assistant coach in 2010-11 for the Calder Cup finalist Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.
He previously served as an assistant coach at Princeton during the 2003-04 season and was the video coach for the Dallas Stars in 2002-03. At Michigan, Wiseman was the team’s administrative assistant from 2000-02.
In 166 career games in Ann Arbor, Wiseman racked up 348 points, which ranks third all-time for the program. A 12th-round selection of the New York Rangers in the 1991 NHL draft, Wiseman appeared in three NHL games, all with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1996-97. In 1998-99, he was the International Hockey League’s leading scorer and most valuable player while leading the Aeros to the Turner Cup. He also captained the Aeros in 1999-2000.
Wiseman replaces Mel Pearson at Michigan, who left for the head coach job at Michigan Tech.
