Providence head coach Tim Army has resigned as head coach of the Friars, the school announced Thursday.
A search to find his successor will begin immediately.
“I want to thank Tim for his dedication and service to the men’s ice hockey program over the last six seasons,” Providence athletics director Bob Driscoll said in a statement. “Tim has represented the college with dignity and class.”
Army, a 1985 Providence graduate, returned to serve as the head coach of the Friars in 2005. In six seasons, he posted a 66-116-28 mark, including a 47-88-27 record in Hockey East play.
“After discussions with Bob Driscoll, we decided a change in leadership may allow the program to move forward,” Army added. “I am proud of a number of things we have been able to accomplish during the past six years and a new perspective may result in the final piece of more victories for the program.”
Prior to coming to PC to serve as a head coach, Army spent nine seasons in the NHL as an assistant coach and three seasons as a head coach in the AHL.
