Nearly all of the players from USA Hockey’s 1980 “Miracle on Ice” hockey team, as well as Ron DeGregorio, president of USA Hockey, will be in Lake Placid, N.Y., Wednesday, Feb. 23, to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the 1980 Winter Olympics.
“It should be an exciting day and we’re pleased to be part of the event,” said DeGregorio. “There were many spectacular performances in the 1980 Games, including the efforts of our men’s hockey team. We commend the Olympic Regional Development Authority in Lake Placid as well as the town, village and visitors bureau for putting this event together.”
The celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Olympic Games, which began with re-creating the opening ceremonies on Feb. 12, runs through Feb. 27.
The highlight event will come Wednesday with the presentation of “A Night of Miracles, Memories and Magic,” a skating show and tribute to the 1980 athletes at the 1980 Arena in Lake Placid. The members of the Olympic team slated to be in Lake Placid on Wednesday include Bill Baker, Neal Broten, Dave Christian, Steve Christoff, Mike Eruzione, John Harrington, Steve Janaszak, Mark Johnson, Rob McClanahan, Ken Morrow, Jack O’Callahan, Mike Ramsey, Buzz Schneider, Dave Silk, Eric Strobel, Bob Suter, Phil Verchota and Mark Wells.
