St. Scholastica has chosen Mark Wick as its men’s hockey coach.
Wick, a 1985 St. Scholastica graduate, and a two-time NCHA all-academic team honoree, was an assistant coach at Augsburg from 1990-95 and at Wisconsin-Superior from 1996-2000.
Steve Lyons, St. Scholastica’s vice president for student affairs and interim athletic director, said Wick was the school’s top candidate.
“The two primary objectives in conducting this search were to identify someone who could provide stability and build success,” said Lyons. “Mark is uniquely qualified to do both.”
Wick takes over for Cory Borys who resigned in August. Borys, a standout player at St. Norbert, led the Saints to a 10-42-1 record in two seasons.
Wick becomes the Saints’ ninth coach since the inauguration of the school’s hockey program in 1972. St. Scholastica hasn’t had a winning season since 1986-87 when it went 18-11-2 and produced three All-Americans.
“I’m excited to be a part of this program again,” said Wick. “It’s good to be back at St. Scholastica; I do think the program is moving in the right direction. Cory did a great job of laying the foundation and I excited about working with this group of players.”
Wick, who currently owns and operates Personal Best Strength and Conditioning Center in Duluth, earned a Masters of Education at Bowling Green in 1989.
The Saints open their season October 29 against Lawrence at home.
